Median Nerve Decompression

Median nerve decompression is a surgical procedure that relieves pressure on the median nerve, most commonly where it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. By dividing the transverse carpal ligament, the operation enlarges the tunnel and reduces mechanical compression, which can restore nerve function and improve pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand. Clinicians use decompression to treat persistent or severe median nerve entrapment, particularly when symptoms do not respond to splinting, activity modification, or other nonsurgical measures. The procedure also provides a practical model for understanding peripheral nerve compression, surgical anatomy, and functional recovery.

There are many available options for management of the patient with trigeminal neuralgia. Microvascular decompression, while the most invasive of all options, is also the most effective at achieving long term remission of symptoms. Video instruction on how to maximize efficacy and minimize complications with this procedure is described.

Besides mean, the median is a widely used measure of central tendency. Typically, median is defined as the central or middle value of a data set, measured by arranging the data elements in an increasing or decreasing order. Since this middle value is not affected by the precise numerical values of the outliers or fluctuations, it is insensitive to them. Hence, in cases where a data set may have outliers or the extreme values are not known, the median is a better measure of the central tendency...
