Multidisciplinary Foot Program

A Multidisciplinary Foot Program is an integrated clinical service that brings together healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. Through coordinated evaluation, team-based decision-making, and individualized care plans, specialists address interacting medical, surgical, biomechanical, rehabilitative, and wound-related needs rather than treating each problem in isolation. These programs support patients with complex or persistent foot conditions, improve continuity across clinical services, and help reduce complications that can impair mobility and quality of life. Their collaborative model also strengthens communication, promotes timely referral, and provides a framework for comprehensive care in medicine.

Source: Robert E. Sallis, MD. Kaiser Permanente, Fontana, California, USA The foot is a complex structure composed of numerous bones and articulations. It provides flexibility, is the essential contact point needed for ambulation, and is uniquely suited to absorb shock. Because the foot must support the weight of the entire body, it is prone to injury and pain. When examining the foot, it is important to remove shoes and socks on both sides, so that the entire foot can be inspected and compared.

Programmed electrical stimulation provides the ability to determine conduction properties of the heart, and the possibility to induce and terminate cardiac arrhythmias using various pacing protocols. Using a transvenous catheter, intracardiac electrogram recordings can be obtained in mice following programmed electrical stimulation protocols to identify arrhythmogenic substrates.
