Perioperative Predictors

Perioperative predictors are patient, procedure, and care-related characteristics used to estimate outcomes before, during, and after surgery, helping clinicians assess risk and plan management. They work by linking measurable factors, such as comorbidities, physiologic status, surgical complexity, and laboratory findings, with outcomes through clinical judgment, risk scores, or statistical models. In medicine, these predictors support preoperative evaluation, informed discussions, allocation of monitoring and resources, and targeted strategies to reduce complications. They also help researchers compare patient risk across studies and identify factors associated with recovery, length of stay, readmission, or mortality.

This video illustrates testing of adjuvant or additional therapy in a mouse model with incompletely resected subcutaneous tumors. The partially tumor-resected mouse is treated with an antibody targeting the anti-cytotoxic protein of T regulatory cells, potentially reducing tumor regrowth and suggesting effective adjuvant therapy.
