Murine Mastectomy

Murine mastectomy is a surgical procedure that removes one or more mammary glands from a mouse, providing a controlled model for studying breast biology and disease. Under appropriate anesthesia and aseptic conditions, researchers expose the mammary tissue, separate it from surrounding structures, excise the gland, and close the wound while monitoring recovery. This model supports investigations of mammary gland development, tumor progression, local recurrence, wound healing, and post-surgical tissue responses. By enabling controlled comparison between operated and non-operated animals, murine mastectomy can help clarify mechanisms of disease and evaluate therapeutic or reconstructive strategies.
