Patient Reported Outcomes

Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are measurements of a patient’s health status, symptoms, functioning, or quality of life reported directly by the patient without interpretation by a clinician. They are collected through structured questionnaires or interviews, often using validated instruments with standardized response scales and defined recall periods to quantify changes in health from the patient’s perspective. In medicine, PROs complement clinical examinations, laboratory findings, and imaging by capturing treatment benefits and burdens that may not be visible through biomedical measures alone. Researchers use them in clinical trials, comparative-effectiveness studies, and routine care to evaluate treatment impact, support shared decision-making, and inform patient-centered health policy.

Data Reporting and Recording

Reporting and recording are crucial in data documentation. The timely, thorough, and accurate documentation of facts is essential when recording patient data. Failure to record findings during an assessment or interpretation of a problem will result in loss of information and make the patient document unreliable. The reader is left with general impressions if the information is not specific. A recording is documenting data of the individual's health information in a traceable, secure, and...

We describe a method for stable labeling of patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) with lentiviral particles expressing green-fluorescent protein and luciferase reporters. This method allows for tracking the growth of PDXs at the primary site, as well as detecting spontaneous and experimental metastases using in vivo imaging systems.

Survivors of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and critical illness frequently develop long-lasting muscle weakness. Manual muscle testing (MMT) is a standardized clinical examination commonly used to measure strength of peripheral skeletal muscle groups. This video demonstrates MMT using the 6-point Medical Research Council scale.

A Lentiviral Transcriptional Reporter System to Generate a Glioblastoma Stem Cell Differentiation Reporter Line

2025

This video demonstrates a technique to generate a glioblastoma stem cell reporter line to identify the differentiation of glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) into astroglia. It outlines the steps involved in seeding GSCs, transducing them with a lentivirus encoding GFP, and determining GFP reporter expression through flow cytometry.
