Skin Injury Management

Skin injury management is the assessment and care of damaged skin to support healing, prevent complications, and restore tissue function. It begins with evaluating the injury’s depth, cause, contamination, and effects on surrounding tissue, followed by cleaning, bleeding control, protection, and monitoring as the inflammatory, proliferative, and remodeling phases of wound healing progress. Appropriate management may include dressings, infection prevention, pain control, debridement, or referral for advanced treatment when necessary. In medicine, these principles guide care for cuts, burns, ulcers, surgical wounds, and traumatic injuries while improving healing outcomes and reducing scarring, infection, and chronic wound formation.

This protocol describes the induction of an ischemia-reperfusion (IR) model on mouse ear skin using magnet clamping. Using a custom-built intravital imaging model, we study in vivo inflammatory responses post-reperfusion. The rationale behind the development of this technique is to extend the understanding of how leukocytes respond to skin IR injury.
