Small Molecule Validation

Small molecule validation is the systematic process of confirming a small molecule’s identity, purity, stability, and biological activity before it is used in medical research or drug development. It combines analytical characterization, such as chromatographic and spectroscopic testing, with controlled biological assays that determine whether the compound produces the expected target-specific response under defined conditions. Validation helps distinguish genuine pharmacological effects from impurities, degradation products, assay artifacts, or nonspecific toxicity. In medicine, it strengthens evidence for lead selection, supports reproducible experiments, and improves confidence in pharmacokinetic, efficacy, and safety studies, providing a foundation for advancing candidate therapeutics.

Reliability and Validity

Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways. Unfortunately, being consistent in measurement does not necessarily mean that you have measured something correctly. To illustrate this concept, consider a kitchen...

Atoms and Molecules Everything in the universe is made up of matter, and matter is composed of a combination of elements. An atom is the smallest unit of an element that retains all properties of the element. For example, a silver coin is made up of silver atoms, and each silver atom retains the unique properties of the element — silver. Elements are pure substances consisting of identical atoms that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical changes. Atomic elements contain...

Method validation is a crucial process in analytical chemistry designed to confirm that a given method consistently produces reliable and high-quality results. This process is essential when a method is applied to different sample matrices or when procedural modifications are made, ensuring that the results meet acceptable standards across various applications. Key parameters for method validation include: Specificity: The ability of the method to accurately measure the target analyte without...
