Ventral Scar Tissue

Ventral scar tissue is fibrous tissue that develops along the front, or anterior, surface of the body as damaged skin and underlying structures heal. After injury or abdominal surgery, inflammation activates fibroblasts to produce collagen, which is deposited and remodeled to reinforce the wound but may leave tissue thicker, less flexible, or tethered to nearby layers. Clinicians assess ventral scars for healing, pain, restricted movement, adhesions, and possible weakness of the abdominal wall, including risks associated with incisional hernias. Understanding scar formation supports wound management, physical rehabilitation, surgical planning, and evaluation of complications that can affect recovery and long-term function.

Co-culturing of Ventral Hippocampal and Nucleus Accumbens

2025

This video demonstrates the process of preparing ventral hippocampal and nucleus accumbens tissues from mouse brains for co-culture. Neurons extend projections to form synaptic connections between the ventral hippocampal and nucleus accumbens tissues. This method allows studying neuronal interactions between these two brain regions, offering insights into cognition, behavior, and neurological disorders.

This manuscript describes methods associated with creation and repair of a ventral abdominal wall defect (hernia). This model can be used to study repair strategies such as those that use implanted materials. In this manuscript, repair of the experimental hernia with porcine small intestinal submucosa is presented as an example.

2014

A surgical method is described to expose the ventral skull in neonate rats. Using this approach it is possible to open a craniotomy to perform acute electrophysiology and two-photon microscopy experiments in the brainstem of anesthetized pups.

Ectopic expression is one technique to elucidate the microRNAs role in brain development. However, targeting specific areas using in ovo electroporation is challenging. Here, we show an efficient way to selectively electroporate ventral and dorsal midbrain regions.
