Infraclavicular Pocket

An infraclavicular pocket is a surgically created subcutaneous space beneath the clavicle that houses an implanted pulse generator, providing a stable site for connecting and securing neuromodulation hardware. During implantation, clinicians dissect the pocket, position the generator to limit pressure and movement, and route insulated extension leads through the neck or chest to electrodes placed at the therapeutic target. In neuroscience, this configuration supports systems such as deep brain stimulation by delivering programmed electrical pulses while allowing later device interrogation, charging when applicable, or replacement; careful pocket construction helps protect the hardware, reduce mechanical stress, and maintain reliable long-term stimulation.

A Hemocyte Disturbance Assay to Assess Hemocyte Re-Adhesion to Hematopoietic Pockets

2025

This video demonstrates the hemocyte disturbance assay, evaluating hemocyte re-adhesion in Drosophila larvae's hematopoietic pockets. Mechanical disturbance releases resident hemocytes, elevating circulating hemocyte counts. Post-recovery, re-adherence of resident hemocytes is confirmed, illustrating reversibility.

The cornea is unique in that it lacks vascular tissues. However, robust blood vessel growth and survival can be induced in the cornea by potent angiogenic factors. Therefore, the cornea can provide with us a valuable tool for angiogenic studies. This protocol demonstrates how to perform the mouse model of cornea pocket assay and how to assess the angiogenesis induced by angiogenic factors using this model.

Source: Jakobs, M., et al. Subcutaneous Trigeminal Nerve Field Stimulation for Refractory Facial Pain. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This procedure demonstrates the implantation of subcutaneous electrodes for trigeminal nerve stimulation to treat neuropathic facial pain. The electrodes are tunneled subcutaneously from the affected facial region to an infraclavicular pocket, where they are connected to an internal pulse generator (IPG). The IPG delivers electrical stimulation, activating mechanoreceptor...

Treating chronic or neuropathic facial pain can be challenging when medical or standard treatment fails. Subcutaneous nerve field stimulation is the least invasive form of neuromodulation and is used for chronic back pain. We applied this technology to treat chronic and neuropathic trigeminal facial pain.
