Theiler's Murine Encephalomyelitis Virus

Theiler’s Murine Encephalomyelitis Virus (TMEV) is a picornavirus that infects the central nervous system of mice and serves as an important model for studying viral encephalitis, neuroinflammation, and demyelinating disease. After entering the brain and spinal cord, TMEV initially replicates in neurons and other neural cells; in susceptible mice, persistent infection of glial cells and macrophages can drive chronic immune-mediated damage to myelin. Researchers use this model to investigate how viral persistence, inflammatory signaling, and immune-cell activity contribute to multiple-sclerosis-like pathology. TMEV studies also support evaluation of antiviral, immunomodulatory, and neuroprotective therapies.

Intracerebral infection with the Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV) in C57BL/6 mice replicates many of the early and chronic clinical symptoms of viral encephalitis and subsequent epilepsy in human patients. This paper describes the virus infection, symptoms, and histopathology of the TMEV model.

(2020)This video demonstrates the in vitro transformation of murine epithelial cells through viral delivery of Cre recombinase and mutation-inducing components. It outlines the steps for Cas9 activation, cancer-gene modification, and the establishment of a tumorigenic murine cell line.

The skin is one target tissue of the human pathogen herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). To explore the invasion route of HSV-1 into tissue, we established an ex vivo infection model of murine epidermal sheets which represent the outermost layer of skin.

Induction of Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis in a Mouse Model

2025

In this video, a mouse model of multiple sclerosis is established using experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The mouse is injected with an emulsion containing a neuronal peptide and an adjuvant, triggering an immune response that activates autoreactive T cells. This is followed by an injection of pertussis toxin (PTX) to increase blood-brain barrier permeability, allowing the autoreactive T-cells to infiltrate the brain. This infiltration initiates a signaling cascade that...

The video demonstrates the induction of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in a mouse model by injecting a combination of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoproteins and inactivated Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The model enables researchers to study disease mechanisms and test therapeutic interventions.
