Ultimatum Game

The Ultimatum Game is a behavioral economics experiment in which one person proposes how to divide a resource and another can accept or reject the offer, making it a useful model for studying fairness, cooperation, and social decision-making. The responder receives the proposed share only after acceptance; rejection typically leaves both players with nothing, creating a conflict between material gain and perceived equity. In neuroscience, researchers use the task alongside brain imaging or physiological measures to examine how reward processing, emotion, cognitive control, and social preferences shape decisions. Findings help explain bargaining behavior and the neural basis of economic and interpersonal judgment.

Sequential Games

2025

Sequential games involve players making decisions one after another, with each player considering the prior decisions of other players before deciding their own strategy. The order of these decisions is crucial, as each decision influences subsequent ones, affecting the overall outcome. Decision trees are valuable tools in illustrating these games, helping visualize each possible decision and its consequences, allowing players to anticipate and plan strategies effectively. Consider two coffee...

Procedures for recording high-density EEG and gaze data during computer game-based cognitive tasks are described. Using a video game to present cognitive tasks enhances ecological validity without sacrificing experimental control.

Introduction to Game Theory

Game theory examines how individuals and groups make strategic decisions when the actions of others influence their outcomes. It helps identify the best strategies by considering all participants' potential choices and reactions to the choices of others. This approach is helpful in gaining insights into many competitive situations where understanding the behavior of others can impact decision-making. For example, two retail stores are deciding whether to extend their business hours. If only one...
