Age Related Decline

Age-related decline is the gradual reduction in certain physical, cognitive, or sensory abilities that can occur with advancing age, making it an important topic in psychology and human development. It may reflect changes in neural processing, memory systems, attention, sensory function, and overall health, although the timing and extent vary widely among individuals and are not equivalent to dementia. Psychologists study these changes through cognitive assessments, longitudinal research, and comparisons across age groups to distinguish typical aging from disease-related impairment. This work informs interventions, supportive environments, healthcare planning, and strategies that promote independence and quality of life in later adulthood.

Magnetic Declination

2025

Magnetic declination is the angle between true north, which aligns with the Earth's rotational axis, and magnetic north, which follows the direction of the Earth's magnetic field. This discrepancy exists because the magnetic poles do not coincide with the geographic poles. The value of magnetic declination depends on the observer's location on Earth and is subject to changes over time due to the dynamic nature of the Earth's magnetic field. The declination is called eastern when magnetic north...

Conservation of Declining Populations

2025

Conservation of declining population focuses on ways of detecting, diagnosing, and halting a population decline. The approach uses methods to prevent populations from going extinct. Conservation efforts often utilize scientific approaches to identify the reasons, or the agents, causing the population to decline. This approach then devises steps to remove, oppose, or neutralize the agents. Conservation efforts may also introduce a test group to determine the probable cause of the decline. The...

Detection of Neuronal Aging in a Cortical Organoid Section

2025

This video demonstrates the method of detecting aging neurons in cortical organoid sections by staining for beta-galactosidase activity, which is elevated in senescent cells. The enzyme cleaves a substrate to produce a blue product, followed by microscopic observation of the stained neurons.

An Introduction to Aging and Regeneration

2023

Tissues are maintained through a balance of cellular aging and regeneration. Aging refers to the gradual loss of cellular function, and regeneration is the repair of damaged tissue generally mediated by preexisting adult or somatic stem cells. Scientists are interested in understanding the biological mechanisms behind these two complex processes. By doing so, researchers may be able to use somatic stem cells to treat degenerative diseases and develop therapies that could delay the effects of...
