Curcumin Treatment

Curcumin treatment refers to the use of curcumin, the principal polyphenolic compound in turmeric, as an investigational bioactive agent in inflammation, oxidative stress, and disease research. At the biochemical level, curcumin can modulate signaling pathways and gene expression by influencing proteins involved in inflammatory responses and cellular redox balance, although limited solubility, stability, and bioavailability can restrict its activity in the body. Researchers therefore study curcumin formulations, cellular mechanisms, pharmacokinetics, and dose-dependent effects to assess its potential in metabolic, inflammatory, and cancer-related conditions. This work connects molecular biochemistry with therapeutic development while distinguishing mechanistic promise from established clinical benefit.

Source: Maiti, P. et. al.,. Labeling and Imaging of Amyloid Plaques in Brain Tissue Using the Natural Polyphenol Curcumin. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the imaging procedure of amyloid-beta plaques in brain tissue sections using immunolabeling and curcumin staining. Immunolabeling provides specificity for amyloid-beta, while curcumin selectively binds β-sheet-rich fibrils, enhancing visualization. The co-localization of red and green fluorescence confirms the presence of plaques.

Curcumin is an ideal fluorophore for labeling and imaging of amyloid beta protein plaques in brain tissue due to its preferential binding to amyloid beta protein as well as its structural similarities with other traditional amyloid binding dyes. It can be used to label and image amyloid beta protein plaques more efficiently and inexpensively than traditional methods.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The Goeckerman regimen, formulated for the treatment of psoriasis, consists of exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) light and application of crude coal tar (CCT). The following protocol is for the administration of Goeckerman therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis.

Rockwell Hardness Test and the Effect of Treatment on Steel

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Hardness testing is one of the most universally valuable mechanical tests available to engineers, as it is both simple and relatively inexpensive for the wealth of information and data it produces. Hardness testing, generally in the form of a surface penetration test, is both quicker and less destructive than tensile testing. Hardness provides a linear relationship with tensile strength over a...
