Antitumor Efficacy

Antitumor efficacy is the measurable ability of a treatment or engineered intervention to inhibit tumor growth, eliminate malignant cells, or prevent disease progression. It is assessed by examining mechanisms such as selective cytotoxicity, apoptosis induction, cell-cycle disruption, inhibition of angiogenesis, or activation of antitumor immunity, using cellular, tissue, and animal models. In bioengineering, researchers evaluate drug-delivery systems, biomaterials, engineered cells, nanoparticles, and tissue models to determine how effectively they reach tumors and act under relevant biological conditions. Measuring antitumor efficacy guides therapeutic design, supports safety and performance comparisons, and helps translate experimental technologies into more precise cancer treatments.

In Vivo Antitumor Efficacy Analysis of PDT: A Technique to Determine the Phototoxic Potential of a Photosensitizer in Tumor Bearing Mice

2023

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive and non-surgical method for lung cancer treatment. Photosensitizers selectively accumulate in tumor tissue and lead to tumor cell death in the presence of oxygen and the proper wavelength of light. This video describes the in vivo anti-tumor efficacy analysis using photosensitizer containing nanoparticles in a tumor-bearing mouse, to determine the phototoxic potential of the photosensitizer.

2025

Self-efficacy is the belief in one's capacity to organize and execute actions necessary to manage prospective situations. This belief significantly influences how individuals approach goals, tasks, and challenges across different domains of life.Psychological and Educational ImpactsIndividuals with strong self-efficacy are more resilient in the face of difficulties. They are more likely to adopt effective problem-solving strategies, persist through obstacles, and regulate emotions such as...

Luciferase Assay to Study Efficacy of Antiparasitic Chemicals Against Parasites

2025

The video demonstrates the luciferase assay used to determine the efficacy of an antiparasitic chemical inhibitor against the intracellular pathogen Toxoplasma gondii. The study involves luciferase-expressing parasites invading the host cells to replicate and survive. The chemical inhibitor binds with the cysteine proteases of the parasite and inhibits replication. The luciferase activity detected is proportional to the fold changes in parasite growth, determining the drug's efficacy against...

A Method to Test the Efficacy of Handwashing for the Removal of Emerging Infectious Pathogens

Handwashing is widely recommended to prevent infectious disease transmission. However, there is little evidence on which handwashing methods are most efficacious at removing infectious disease pathogens. We developed a method to assess the efficacy of handwashing methods at removing microorganisms.
