Porta Hepatis

The porta hepatis is a transverse fissure on the visceral surface of the liver that serves as the organ’s main gateway for blood vessels, bile ducts, lymphatic vessels, and nerves. Through this region, the hepatic portal vein and proper hepatic artery enter, while the right and left hepatic ducts carry bile away; these structures travel together in the hepatoduodenal ligament before branching within the liver. Understanding the porta hepatis is essential for interpreting liver anatomy, tracing portal circulation, and distinguishing biliary pathways. Its organization also guides surgical procedures, radiologic evaluation, and the assessment of conditions affecting hepatic blood flow or bile drainage.

Novel isolation methods of primary endothelial cells from blood vessels are needed. This protocol describes a new technique that completely inverts blood vessels of interest, exposing only the endothelial side to enzymatic digestion. The resulting pure endothelial cell culture can be used to study cardiovascular diseases, disease modelling, and angiogenesis.

The easiness of maintaining and propagating the nematode C. elegans make it a nice model organism to work with. The possibility of synchronizing worms allows the work with a significant amount of subjects at the same developmental stage, what facilitates the study of one particular process in many animals.

Homeobox genes are regulatory genes often associated with tumors in the adult organisms. We investigated their comparative expression by immunohistochemical and real-time PCR analysis, in normal and inflammatory nasal mucosae and in sinonasal neoplasms in order to use them as possible diagnostic and therapeutic targets.

2025

This study introduces a novel approach for real-time cardiac mapping using a noninvasive, imageless electrocardiographic imaging system. This system enables the acquisition of electrophysiological cardiac maps without requiring pre-procedural computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scans, enabling efficient guidance for cardiac procedures such as ablation and cardiac resynchronization therapy implants.
