Hifu Ablation Precision

HIFU ablation precision refers to the ability of high-intensity focused ultrasound to destroy targeted tissue without surgical incisions, an important consideration in cancer research and treatment development. During the procedure, multiple ultrasound waves converge at a defined focal point, raising tissue temperature enough to produce thermal coagulative necrosis while limiting energy exposure in surrounding regions. Imaging guidance helps clinicians plan the target, monitor treatment, and assess the ablated area in real time. Research uses this approach to investigate localized tumor control, treatment margins, repeatable noninvasive interventions, and combinations with other therapies, supporting more precise and patient-specific cancer care.

Source: Muto, A., et al. Ablation of a Neuronal Population Using a Two-photon Laser and Its Assessment Using Calcium Imaging and Behavioral Recording in Zebrafish Larvae. J. Vis. Exp. (2018) In this video, a two-photon laser ablation procedure is demonstrated, enabling the selective destruction of fluorescent neurons in agarose-immobilized zebrafish larvae. High-resolution imaging before and after the procedure confirms efficient neuronal damage, as observed by the absence of fluorescence.
