Specimen Holder

A specimen holder is a device that supports, secures, and positions biological material during laboratory preparation, imaging, or analysis. In cancer research, it maintains a sample’s orientation and stability while researchers perform procedures such as tissue sectioning, staining, microscopy, or instrument-based measurements, helping ensure that the same region remains accessible and accurately aligned. Holders may accommodate tissue biopsies, tumor specimens, cell preparations, or other sample formats, depending on the workflow and analytical platform. Reliable handling improves reproducibility, reduces sample damage, and supports consistent evaluation of cellular structure, biomarker distribution, and treatment-related changes.

Isolating electrical and thermal effects on electrically assisted deformation (EAD) is very difficult using macroscopic samples. Metallic sample micro- and nanostructures together with a custom test procedure have been developed to evaluate the impact of applied current on the formation without joule heating and evolution of dislocations on these samples.

Cryo Electron Microscopes, either Scanning (SEM) or Transmission (TEM), are widely used for characterization of biological samples or other materials with a high water content1. A SEM/Focused Ion Beam (FIB) is used to identify features of interest in samples and extract a thin, electron-transparent lamella for transfer to a cryo-TEM.
