Anesthetized Female Mouse

An anesthetized female mouse is a laboratory animal maintained under controlled anesthesia for cancer research procedures such as tumor implantation, imaging, surgery, or tissue collection, helping reduce pain, stress, and movement. Anesthetic agents depress central nervous system activity, producing a reversible state of unconsciousness or reduced responsiveness that requires monitoring of breathing, body temperature, reflexes, and recovery. This model supports investigation of tumor growth, metastasis, treatment response, and sex-related biological differences. Careful anesthesia and perioperative management improve animal welfare and help researchers obtain reliable measurements while meeting ethical and reproducibility standards in preclinical oncology.

(2019)This video demonstrates the electrophoretic delivery of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) to inhibit seizure activity in an anesthetized mouse. It outlines the steps involved in probe implantation, neural activity recording, seizure induction, and controlled GABA delivery via a microfluidic ion pump to assess its therapeutic efficacy.

Establishment of a Urinary Tract Infection Model in Female Mice

This video demonstrates the establishment of uropathogenic Escherichia coli infection in a female mouse bladder through transurethral catheter instillation. The injected bacteria successfully establish a urinary tract infection within the bladder, providing a valuable platform for studying healthcare-associated diseases related to the urinary tract.

Reverse genetic approaches have proven extremely useful for determining which genes underly resistance to vector pathogens in mosquitoes. This video protocol illustrates a method used by the James lab to inject dsRNA into female A. aegypti mosquitoes, which harbor the dengue virus. The technique for calibrating injection needles, manipulating the injection setup, and injecting dsRNA into the thorax is illustrated.
