Click Chemistry Synthesis

Click chemistry synthesis is a modular approach for rapidly joining molecular building blocks through highly selective, reliable reactions, making it valuable for constructing complex compounds efficiently. A widely used example is copper-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition, in which organic azides and terminal alkynes react under relatively mild conditions to form stable 1,2,3-triazole linkages with high selectivity and minimal byproducts. These reactions support applications in medicinal chemistry, polymer and materials science, chemical biology, and bioconjugation, where researchers attach functional groups, assemble libraries of compounds, or modify biomolecules. Their operational simplicity and compatibility with diverse substrates make click chemistry synthesis an important platform for streamlined molecular design.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Neal Abrams — SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Transition metals are found everywhere from vitamin supplements to electroplating baths. Transition metals also make up the pigments in many paints and compose all minerals. Typically, transition metals are found in the cationic form since they readily oxidize, or lose electrons, and are surrounded by electron donors called ligands. These ligands do not form ionic or covalent bonds with the metal center,...

Solid Phase Synthesis

Source: Vy M. Dong and Diane Le, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine, CA Merrifield's solid-phase synthesis is a Nobel Prize winning invention where a reactant molecule is bound on a solid support and undergoes successive chemical reactions to form a desired compound. When the molecules are bound to a solid support, excess reagents and byproducts can be removed by washing away the impurities, while the target compound remains bound to the resin. Specifically, we will...
