Iodine Chamber

An iodine chamber is a sealed vessel used to expose samples to iodine vapor, making certain substances visible during chemical analysis. Solid iodine sublimates directly into vapor, which interacts with organic compounds on a sample or thin-layer chromatography plate and produces temporary brown or yellow-brown coloration. This simple visualization method helps reveal otherwise faint or colorless chromatographic spots, supporting compound separation and identification in chemistry laboratories. Because iodine staining is generally reversible and does not permanently alter many samples, the chamber is useful for qualitative analysis, reaction monitoring, and teaching fundamental relationships among volatility, adsorption, and molecular composition.

Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution: Fluorination and Iodination of Benzene

2023

Bromination and chlorination of aromatic rings by electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions are easily achieved, but fluorination and iodination are difficult to achieve. Fluorine is so reactive that its reaction with benzene is difficult to control, resulting in poor yields of monofluoroaromatic products. To address this, Selectfluor reagent is used as a fluorine source in which a fluorine atom is bonded to a positively charged nitrogen. Unlike fluorine, iodine is highly unreactive for...

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
