Monomer Oligomer Ratio

Monomer oligomer ratio is a compositional measure comparing the amount of unreacted monomer with short-chain oligomers in a chemical mixture, especially during polymer synthesis. As monomers react through functional groups or polymerizable double bonds, they form progressively longer chains, causing the ratio to change with conversion, reaction time, temperature, catalyst activity, and stoichiometry. Monitoring this balance helps researchers assess reaction progress, control molecular-size distributions, and evaluate the consistency of resins, coatings, adhesives, and other polymer materials. The ratio also supports process optimization by indicating whether a formulation contains excessive residual monomer or insufficiently developed oligomeric structure.

Size-Exclusion Chromatography with Multi-Angle Light Scattering for Protein Oligomers

2025

This video describes SEC-MALS, which leverages the abilities of size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) and multi-angle light scattering (MALS). In SEC-MALS, the SEC separates proteins or protein complexes based on their size, and the MALS detector determines the average molecular weight by measuring the intensity of the light scattered by the molecule at different angles.

Lipid polyesters constitute the structural components of two cell wall modifications, the plant cuticle and suberin-containing diffusion barriers. In this video, we describe a method to depolymerize cutin from whole delipidated leaves. The method can be applied to investigating mutants compromised in either cutin or suberin biosynthesis.

Controlled Infusion of Aβ Peptide-Specific Antibodies and Aβ Oligomers into the Rat Hippocampus

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for the continuous infusion of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptide-specific antibodies into the hippocampus of a rat. The study employs implanting a bilateral cannula system for a controlled infusion of Aβ peptide-specific antibodies coupled with the infusion of soluble Aβ oligomers (Aβo) into the rat hippocampus to study the interactions between the oligomers and the antibodies.
