Zirconium 89 Labeling

Zirconium-89 labeling is a radiochemical method that attaches the positron-emitting radionuclide zirconium-89 to molecules for sensitive tracking, particularly in biomedical research. Because zirconium-89 has a physical half-life of approximately 78 hours, it can be coordinated by chelators such as desferrioxamine and linked to antibodies or other targeting molecules that require extended circulation times. The labeled compounds emit positrons detected by positron emission tomography, allowing researchers to measure biodistribution, target engagement, and clearance in living systems. This technique supports immuno-PET, antibody development, and evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals while connecting coordination chemistry with molecular imaging.

A two dimensional model material of discotic zirconium phosphate was developed. The inorganic crystal with lamellar structure was synthesized by hydrothermal, reflux, and microwave-assisted methods. On exfoliation with organic molecules, layered crystals can be converted to monolayers, and nematic liquid crystal phase was formed at sufficient concentration of monolayers.

Metabolic Labeling

2023

Metabolic labeling is used to probe the biochemical transformations and modifications that occur in a cell. This is accomplished by using chemical analogs that mimic the structure of natural biomolecules. Cells utilize analogs in their endogenous biochemical processes, producing compounds that are labeled. The label allows for the incorporation of detection and affinity tags, which can then be used to elucidate metabolic pathways using other biochemical analytical techniques, such as SDS-PAGE...
