Collagen Hydroxyapatite Scaffold

A collagen hydroxyapatite scaffold is a biomimetic three-dimensional material designed to support bone tissue formation by combining collagen, a flexible structural protein, with hydroxyapatite, the mineral component of bone. Its mechanism relies on collagen providing an interconnected framework for cell attachment and tissue organization, while hydroxyapatite supplies mineral stiffness and a bone-like surface that can support mineral deposition. In tissue engineering, these scaffolds can guide osteogenic cell growth and promote integration with surrounding bone. Their composition, porosity, and mechanical properties can be tailored for applications such as bone defect repair, regenerative medicine, and the study of cell-material interactions.
