Molybdenum Oxide Contact

A molybdenum oxide contact is an engineered electrical interface in which a molybdenum oxide layer connects a conductor with a semiconductor or other functional material, influencing charge transfer and device performance. Its behavior depends on oxide composition, thickness, work function, and band alignment, which together regulate carrier injection or extraction through interfacial transport and, in thin layers, tunneling. Molybdenum oxide contacts are used in electronic and optoelectronic structures, including thin-film devices, where they can improve selectivity, reduce recombination, and tune electrical characteristics. Understanding their chemistry and interface physics supports the design of more efficient, stable, and reproducible components.

We describe the approaches for the device fabrication and electrical characterization of molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) layer semiconductor nanostructures with different thicknesses. In addition, the fabrication of ohmic contacts for MoSe2-layer nanocrystals by the focused-ion beam deposition method using platinum (Pt) as a contact metal is described.

Oxidation Numbers

2020

In redox reactions, the transfer of electrons occurs between reacting species. Electron transfer is described by a hypothetical number called the oxidation number (or oxidation state). It represents the effective charge of an atom or element, which is assigned using a set of rules. Oxidation Number (Oxidation State) In the case of an ionic compound, oxidation numbers are assigned based on the number of electrons transferred between reacting species. For example, in the formation of calcium...

When a solid is dipped inside a liquid, the liquid surface becomes curved near the contact. For some solid–liquid interfaces, the liquid is pulled up along the solid, while for others, the liquid surface is convex or depressed near the solid surface. This phenomenon can be explained using the concept of cohesive and adhesive forces. The adhesive force is the molecular force between molecules of different materials, that is, between the molecules of the solid and the liquid. The cohesive force...

Using Laser Scanning Microscopy to Determine Electromigration in Molybdenum Disilicide

2025

Here, we describe a workflow using laser scanning microscopy to determine the volume electromigrated through a metal line under test. By varying different experimental variables, a multitude of information about electromigration can be acquired. In this work, the length of the onset of electromigration is determined.
