Planar Circuits

Planar circuits are electrical circuits whose conductive elements are arranged in one or more parallel planes on a substrate, enabling compact and controlled signal routing. They operate by guiding current and electromagnetic fields through patterned conductors separated by dielectric materials, with geometry, spacing, and substrate properties determining impedance, coupling, and signal behavior. Engineers use planar circuits in printed circuit boards, microwave transmission lines, antennas, and integrated electronic systems, where their low profile supports miniaturization and repeatable fabrication. Understanding planar layouts also helps researchers manage losses, interference, and frequency-dependent performance in high-speed and radio-frequency designs.

Crystal Field Theory - Tetrahedral and Square Planar Complexes

2020

Tetrahedral Complexes Crystal field theory (CFT) is applicable to molecules in geometries other than octahedral. In octahedral complexes, the lobes of the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals point directly at the ligands. For tetrahedral complexes, the d orbitals remain in place, but with only four ligands located between the axes. None of the orbitals points directly at the tetrahedral ligands. However, the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals (along the Cartesian axes) overlap with the ligands less than the dxy,...

A resistor dissipates energy and obeys Ohm's law, with its voltage proportional to its current. A capacitor stores electrical energy, with its current proportional to the rate of change of its voltage, while an inductor stores magnetic energy, with its voltage...

Supported planar bilayers are powerful tools that can be used to model the molecular interactions in an immunological synapse. Here, we show methods for anchoring cell adhesion proteins known to modulate synapse formation to the upper leaflet of the lipid bilyer and visualize synapse formation using TIRF microscopy.

Preparation of protein-functionalized planar glass-supported lipid bilayers, determination of protein mobility within and measurement of protein densities is shown here. A roadmap to building a noise-reduced Total Internal Reflection microscope is outlined, which allows visualizing single bilayer-resident fluorochromes with high spatiotemporal resolution.
