Circuit Nodes

Circuit nodes are points in an electrical network connected by ideal conductors and sharing the same electrical potential, making them essential for describing circuit structure and behavior. In nodal analysis, each node is assigned a voltage relative to a reference node, while Kirchhoff’s Current Law relates the currents entering and leaving it according to conservation of charge. Identifying nodes helps engineers simplify circuit diagrams, formulate system equations, and calculate unknown voltages and branch currents. This concept supports the analysis and design of analog, digital, power, and control circuits, as well as computer-based simulation of complex electrical systems.

2024

Consider an angioplasty system featuring a catheter equipped with a turbine, a critical tool for removing plaque deposits from coronary arteries. This intricate medical device operates using a circuit model reminiscent of a dual-node RLC circuit powered by a current-controlled voltage source. To unravel the complexities of this system, nodal analysis is employed, a powerful technique founded on Kirchhoff's current law (KCL), which remains valid for phasors. AC circuits can effectively be...

Source: Richard Glickman-Simon, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, MA The lymphatic system has two main functions: to return extracellular fluid back to the venous circulation and to expose antigenic substances to the immune system. As the collected fluid passes through lymphatic channels on its way back to the systemic circulation, it encounters multiple nodes consisting of highly concentrated clusters of...

A resistor dissipates energy and obeys Ohm's law, with its voltage proportional to its current. A capacitor stores electrical energy, with its current proportional to the rate of change of its voltage, while an inductor stores magnetic energy, with its voltage...
