Transducer

A transducer is a device that converts energy or information from one form into another, making physical phenomena measurable, controllable, or transferable in engineering systems. It typically detects an input such as temperature, pressure, displacement, light, or sound and transforms it into a proportional electrical signal, while actuating transducers perform the reverse conversion to produce motion, heat, or another physical output. Sensors, microphones, strain gauges, thermocouples, motors, and piezoelectric devices are common examples. Transducers enable measurement, feedback control, automation, and communication across fields including robotics, biomedical engineering, manufacturing, and aerospace, where accurate signal conversion supports monitoring, diagnosis, and system optimization.

2023

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Fluid pressure is an important flow characteristic that is required to determine the aerodynamics of a system. One of the oldest and still existing pressure measurement systems is the manometer due to its accuracy and simplicity of operation. The manometer is generally a U-shaped glass tube that is partially filled with liquid, as shown in Figure 1. The U-tube manometer requires no...

Transducer Mechanism: Nuclear Receptors

2023

Nuclear receptors, or NRs, are unique transcription factors that regulate gene transcription and affect the cellular pathways involved in reproduction, development, or metabolism. Their ability to be stimulated by small lipophilic ligands and control vital cellular processes makes them ideal drug targets. Nearly 10-15% of currently prescribed drugs target these receptors. About 48 different soluble family members of nuclear receptors are identified that can be divided into two main classes:
