Field-compatible Protocol

A field-compatible protocol is a scientific procedure designed to produce reliable results in nonlaboratory settings, where equipment, environmental control, and sample-processing resources may be limited. In genetics, such protocols adapt steps for collecting, preserving, preparing, and analyzing biological samples so workflows remain practical under variable field conditions while maintaining the integrity of genetic material. Their applications include environmental surveys, biodiversity monitoring, agricultural studies, epidemiological sampling, and research in remote locations. By connecting field sampling with downstream genetic analysis, these methods can improve access to timely data and support studies that are difficult to conduct using conventional laboratory workflows alone.

2019

Characterizing erosion from dendrogeomorphology has usually focused on accurately finding the starting time of root exposure, by examining macroscopic or cell level changes caused by exposure. Here, we offer a detailed description of different novel techniques to obtain more precise erosion rates from highly accurate microtopographic data.

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Taslima A. Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA While the use of various chemicals in experimental research is essential, it is also important to safely store and maintain them as a part of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program. The properties of chemicals and their reactivity vary broadly and if chemicals are not managed, stored, and labeled properly, they can have harmful or even destructive consequences such as toxic fume...
