Cold-adapted Virus Production

Cold-adapted virus production is the controlled generation and propagation of viral strains that replicate efficiently at reduced temperatures, a process important for studying infection and developing attenuated vaccines. The method typically involves growing virus in susceptible cells under cool conditions, selecting variants that maintain replication in the cold while showing reduced growth at warmer temperatures corresponding to the host respiratory tract or body. This temperature-sensitive behavior can limit viral spread while preserving antigen production that stimulates immunity. In immunology and infection research, cold-adapted viruses support investigations of viral replication, host responses, attenuation, and vaccine performance.
