Viral Tracking

Viral tracking is the monitoring of virus movement, replication, and spread through host cells, tissues, or organisms, helping researchers understand infection dynamics. In immunology and infection studies, investigators commonly label virions or engineer reporter viruses that produce fluorescent or luminescent signals, then use microscopy or other imaging methods to follow infection over time. These measurements can reveal how viruses enter cells, disseminate between tissues, evade immune defenses, and trigger host responses. Viral tracking supports studies of pathogenesis, antiviral treatments, vaccine responses, and transmission, while improving the ability to connect viral behavior with disease progression and immune protection.

A Luciferase-Fluorescent Reporter Influenza Virus to Track Viral Infections

2025

This video demonstrates a method to track viral infections in mouse models using a recombinant luciferase and fluorescence protein-expressing bi-reporter Influenza A virus. This method enables both in vivo and ex vivo studies, enabling researchers to gain insights into viral dynamics and the effects of interventions.

(2019).This video demonstrates viral transduction via in-utero injection in mouse embryos. A pregnant mouse is prepared for the surgery, and a midline incision is made to expose the uterine horns. A mixture of a virus containing the desired gene and a tracking dye is injected into the embryos within the uterine sacs at the...

Multiple Object Tracking

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In a staggeringly complex and engaging world, it is crucial to selectively process some stimuli at the expense of others. Experimental psychologists call this ability attention. Specifically, visual attention refers to the ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Many paradigms used to study visual attention involve brief, punctuated, and repeated trials. However, everyday situations often place sustained demands...
