3d Digital Model

A 3D digital model is a computer-based representation of an object, structure, or system that conveys its shape, spatial relationships, and measurable features. In medicine, these models are typically created by processing imaging data, such as computed tomography or magnetic resonance scans, to segment anatomical structures and reconstruct them as surfaces or volumetric representations. Clinicians and researchers can rotate, measure, visualize, and sometimes simulate interactions within the model. Applications include surgical planning, medical education, prosthesis and implant design, patient-specific assessment, and biomedical research, where accurate three-dimensional representations can improve communication, support decision-making, and inform personalized treatment strategies.

We demonstrate controlled pattern transformation of swelling gel tubes by elastic instability. A simple projection micro stereo-lithography setup is built using an off-the-shelf digital data projector to fabricate three-dimensional polymeric structures in a layer-by-layer fashion. Swelling hydrogel tubes under mechanical constraint display various circumferential buckling modes depending on dimension.
