Capsular Flap Control

Capsular flap control is a microsurgical technique used to manage a capsular flap during lens surgery, particularly when creating a controlled anterior capsulotomy for cataract treatment. The surgeon uses microforceps and viscoelastic support to grasp, reposition, and tension the flap while directing the capsule tear along the intended circular path and maintaining a stable anterior chamber. Effective control helps prevent radial extension, incomplete openings, and damage to surrounding structures. This technique improves the predictability of capsulotomy size and shape, supports stable intraocular lens positioning, and provides a practical foundation for safer, more consistent cataract surgery.
