Dorsal Medial Nerve

The dorsal medial nerve, commonly termed the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve, is a peripheral sensory nerve that supplies skin on the medial dorsum of the foot and helps convey cutaneous sensation from the forefoot. It typically arises as a terminal branch of the superficial fibular nerve, travels beneath the skin toward the medial foot, and divides into digital branches that may communicate with the saphenous and deep fibular nerves. Its anatomy is important in clinical examination, localization of sensory deficits, regional anesthesia, and planning surgical approaches to the ankle and foot, where nerve injury can cause numbness or neuropathic pain.

Preparation of Parasagittal Slices for the Investigation of Dorsal-ventral Organization of the Rodent Medial Entorhinal Cortex

We describe procedures for preparation and electrophysiological recording from brain slices that maintain the dorsal-ventral axis of the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC). Because neural encoding of location follows a dorsal-ventral organization within the MEC, these procedures facilitate investigation of cellular mechanisms important for navigation and memory.

An Anatomical Study of Nerves at Risk During Minimally Invasive Hallux Valgus Surgery

Minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures rely on anatomical references to localize structures not directly visible to the surgeon. This manuscript describes a combined method of plane-by-plane dissection and sectional anatomy of fresh-frozen specimens to locate the structures at risk during MIS procedures.

Generation of Medial Thalamus-Anterior Cingulate Cortex Slices from Mouse Brains

2025

The video demonstrates the preparation of medial thalamus-anterior cingulate cortex (MT-ACC) slices from mouse brains. A mouse's brain is dissected, cuts are made to expose the MT-ACC pathway, and slices are generated using a vibratome. The MT-ACC slices are then maintained in oxygenated artificial cerebrospinal fluid.

A Comprehensive Protocol for Manual Segmentation of the Medial Temporal Lobe Structures

The present work provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for manually tracing the medial temporal lobe (MTL) structures. This protocol can be applied to research involving structural and/or combined structural-functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) investigations of the MTL, in both healthy and clinical groups.

Dorsal Root Ganglia Neurons and Differentiated Adipose-derived Stem Cells: An In Vitro Co-culture Model to Study Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

2015

Dorsal root ganglia (DRG) are structures containing the sensory neurons of the peripheral nervous system. When dissociated, they can be co-cultured with SC-like adipose-derived stem cells (ASC), providing a valuable model to study in vitro nerve regeneration and myelination, mimicking the in vivo environment at the injury site.
