Laparoscopic Pancreatic Resection

Laparoscopic pancreatic resection is a minimally invasive surgical technique that removes diseased pancreatic tissue through small abdominal incisions, offering an alternative to open surgery in appropriately selected patients. Carbon dioxide insufflation creates a working space, while a laparoscope provides magnified visualization and specialized instruments dissect the pancreas, control blood vessels, and divide or reconstruct adjacent organs when necessary. The approach is used for selected pancreatic tumors, cystic lesions, and other localized disease, including distal pancreatectomy and some pancreaticoduodenectomy procedures. By reducing surgical access trauma, it may support shorter recovery, although technical complexity and complications such as pancreatic fistula and bleeding remain important considerations.
