Mouse Tumor Model

A mouse tumor model is an in vivo research system that reproduces aspects of cancer biology in mice, enabling investigators to study tumor development, progression, and treatment responses. Models can involve transplanting tumor cells or tissue into mice, introducing cancer-associated genetic changes, or using patient-derived tumors; growing tumors interact with blood vessels, immune cells, and surrounding tissue to form a tumor microenvironment. In medicine, these models support research on cancer mechanisms, biomarker identification, drug efficacy, toxicity, and resistance. Their controlled experimental conditions help connect laboratory findings with potential therapeutic strategies while clarifying how tumors respond within a living organism.

Tumor Implantation and Injection of a Tumor Vaccine in a Mouse Model

2025

This video demonstrates a cell-based tumor vaccination assay. A mouse, intradermally injected with B16-F10 melanoma cells for tumor formation, is vaccinated with B16-F10 cells secreting Flt3L cytokine near the developed tumor. The secreted Flt3L from the vaccine promotes the maturation and proliferation of dendritic cells that then present tumor antigens to T cells in lymph nodes, triggering a targeted anti-tumor immune response.

Begin with immunodeficient mice bearing subcutaneous xenograft tumors derived from human colorectal cancer cells.Orally administer Pediococcus pentosaceus, a lactic acid bacterium safe for consumption and engineered to secrete an anticancer protein, to the treated mouse.Administer saline to the control mouse.Being acid-tolerant, the bacteria survive the acidic environment of the stomach and reach the intestine. There, they colonize the intestinal lumen and secrete the anticancer protein.The...

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been shown to play an important role in tumor metastasis. Here, a method for the isolation and propagation of CTCs from the whole blood of a syngeneic mouse tumor model of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) metastasis is described.

Orthotopic Homograft Tumor Transplantation: A Technique to Generate Pancreatic Tumor Mouse Models

The video explains a stepwise surgical method for orthotopic implantation of a tumor fragment from a cancerous donor to the pancreas of a non-cancerous recipient mice for development of pancreatic cancer. Orthotopically implanted PDAC could recapture the tissue microenvironment of human pancreatic cancers than conventional subcutaneous (SC) models more accurately.

2016

Bioluminescence imaging is a well-known tool for localizing tumors and metastases, but quantification of these images often requires complex calculations and particular instruments. We describe the easy-to-use luminoscore method, based on precise acquisition conditions, requiring no calculations, and enabling tumor burden and treatment response to be monitored in mouse models.
