Percutaneous Suture Passage

Percutaneous suture passage is a minimally invasive technique that places sutures through soft tissue using small skin punctures rather than a larger surgical incision. A needle or suture-passing device is guided through the target tissue, allowing the suture to capture, approximate, or secure tissue before the ends are tied or fixed. In medicine, the technique supports tissue repair and stabilization while limiting disruption to surrounding structures. It is used in procedures such as tendon, ligament, and other soft-tissue repairs, and its precision can contribute to smaller wounds, reduced tissue trauma, and efficient postoperative recovery.

Percutaneous Cricothyrotomy

2023

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA A surgical airway procedure is indicated when other forms of endotracheal intubation have failed and ventilation is worsening or not possible. This is the feared "can't intubate, can't ventilate" scenario, and in the emergency setting, cricothyrotomy is the surgical procedure of choice. Cricothyrotomy is preferred over tracheotomy because of the lower risk of complications, the predictable anatomy...

Passaging Cells

2023

Cell lines are frequently used in biomedical experiments, as they allow rapid culture and expansion of cell types for experimental analysis. Cell lines are cultured under similar conditions when compared to freshly-isolated, or primary, cells, but with some basic important differences: (i) cell lines require their own specific growth factor cocktails and (ii) their growth must be more closely monitored than primary cells, as the mutations that allow them to be grown indefinitely also can...

The ability to manipulate human neural stem/precursor cells (hNSPCs) in vitro allows to investigate their utility as cell transplants for therapeutic purposes and to explore human neural development. This protocol presents a method of culturing and passaging hNSPCs in hopes of increasing reproducibility of human stem cell research.

Assessment of Neuromuscular Function Using Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

We present a protocol to assess changes in neuromuscular function. Percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is a non-invasive method that evokes muscular responses. Electrophysiological and mechanical properties of these responses permit the evaluation of neuromuscular function from brain to muscle (supra-spinal, spinal and peripheral levels).
