Renal Pedicle Clamping

Renal pedicle clamping is a surgical technique that temporarily occludes the blood vessels supplying and draining the kidney, creating a controlled bloodless field during renal procedures. By compressing or controlling the renal artery and vein, the technique reduces renal perfusion and bleeding while surgeons remove or repair targeted tissue; the clamp is then released to restore circulation. It is used most commonly in partial nephrectomy and other kidney operations where precise tissue handling is essential. Understanding warm ischemia, reperfusion, and preservation of functioning nephrons helps clinicians balance operative control with protection of renal function and informs research on safer surgical strategies.

A precise murine model for acute kidney injury (AKI) due to ischemia is an important tool to investigate acute kidney injury and possibly find therapeutic tools to treat renal injury. The hanging weight system offers a tool for immediate and reliable renal artery occlusion and reperfusion without causing renal congestion.

This protocol presents a novel coronoid-temporalis pedicled flap (CTPF) technique for reconstructing small-to-medium orbital floor defects. CTPF avoids microvascular risks while maintaining biomechanical stability. Clinical cases demonstrate effective structural restoration, reduced complications, and preserved facial symmetry, offering a viable alternative to traditional grafts or alloplastic materials.

2016

Early stage hemodynamic dysfunction is critical to the development of kidney disease. Yet, detection methodologies are limited. Recent advances in sonography provide a noninvasive, accurate option for early detection of kidney injury. This study outlines a step-by-step, sonographic methodology for detecting kidney dysfunction using a drug-induced nephrotoxicity rat model.
