Slit Lamp Laser Procedure

Slit lamp laser procedures are ophthalmic treatments that use a focused laser through a slit lamp biomicroscope to examine and treat structures at the front or back of the eye. The instrument provides magnified, illuminated visualization while specialized lenses and controlled laser pulses deliver energy to a precise target, producing effects such as tissue coagulation, opening, or remodeling. Clinicians use these procedures in managing conditions including glaucoma, retinal disease, and selected corneal or lens-related problems. By combining accurate visualization with localized treatment, slit lamp laser techniques can improve disease control while limiting injury to surrounding ocular tissue.

2014

A procedure for creating and imaging capillary bridges in slit-pore geometry is presented. The creation of capillary bridges relies on the formation of pillars to provide a directional physical and chemical heterogeneity to pin the fluid. Capillary bridges are formed and manipulated using microstages and visualized using a CCD camera.

Here, we present the mouse laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV) protocol, an experimental model that re-creates the vascular hallmarks of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Once mastered, it can reliably and effectively induce CNV as a model system to test various experimental measures.

A Laser-induced Mouse Model of Chronic Ocular Hypertension to Characterize Visual Defects

Chronic ocular hypertension is induced using laser photocoagulation of the trabecular meshwork in mouse eyes. The intraocular pressure (IOP) is elevated for several months after laser treatment. The decrease of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity of experimental animals are monitored using the optomotor test.

2021

This article presents and describes an outpatient treatment for prostate cancer using focal laser ablation. Laser catheter placement is guided by MRI-ultrasound fusion imaging in a fashion similar to prostate needle biopsy. Treatment is monitored in real-time with a thermal probe, placed adjacent to the laser fiber.
