Color Doppler Mode

Color Doppler mode is an ultrasound imaging technique that maps the direction and relative velocity of moving blood onto a two-dimensional anatomical image, helping visualize vascular function in real time. It works by detecting Doppler frequency shifts produced when ultrasound waves reflect from red blood cells, then assigning colors according to flow direction and speed; changes in scale can produce aliasing when velocities exceed the selected limit. In neuroscience, transcranial color Doppler supports assessment of intracranial arteries through suitable acoustic windows, including evaluation of blood-flow changes, stenosis, and vasospasm. Its angle and window limitations make interpretation alongside B-mode and spectral Doppler important.

(2015)In this video, we demonstrate the use of high-frequency ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging to study the vasculature and hemoglobin content in the rat brain. This method provides detailed insights into cerebral perfusion and blood oxygenation, enabling non-invasive analysis of brain vascular structures and oxygen distribution.

Sound Waves and Doppler Shift

Source: Arianna Brown, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Waves are disturbances that propagate through a material medium or empty space. Light waves can travel through a vacuum and some forms of matter, and are transverse in nature, which means that the oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of propagation. However, sound waves are pressure waves that travel through an elastic medium like air,...

Changes in ovarian blood flow during the preovulatory period are essential for ovulation. Doppler ultrasonography has been used in humans and large animals to assess ovarian hemodynamics and perfusion. A protocol is presented for applying Doppler ultrasonography to evaluate ovarian hemodynamics during the preovulatory and periovulatory phases in mice.

Doppler Effect - I

The Doppler effect and Doppler shift were named after the Austrian physicist and mathematician Christian Johann Doppler in 1842, who conducted experiments with both moving sources and moving observers. Consider an observer standing on a street corner, observing an ambulance with a siren sound passing by at a constant speed. The observer experiences two characteristic changes in the sound of the siren. Initially, the sound increases in loudness as the ambulance approaches and decreases in...
