Nerve Gap Model

The nerve gap model is an experimental neuroscience model used to study peripheral nerve repair after a segment of nerve is removed or separated, creating a defined gap between the proximal and distal ends. In this model, axons regenerate from the proximal stump across an implanted graft, conduit, or engineered scaffold, while Schwann cells and extracellular matrix help support growth and reconnection. Researchers use controlled gap lengths and functional outcomes to compare nerve grafts, biomaterials, cellular therapies, and neurotrophic strategies. The model links microscopic regeneration with recovery of sensation and movement, supporting development and preclinical evaluation of treatments for nerve injuries.

Service Gap Model

Understanding service quality gaps enables companies to make targeted improvements to meet customer needs better. The Knowledge Gap arises when a company needs to understand customer expectations due to inadequate research or communication. For example, a store might assume customers prefer a wide selection of products when they value faster service. Companies should actively gather and respond to customer feedback to close this gap. The Policy Gap occurs when a company's service policies do...

Construction of a Composite Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface in a Rat Model of Nerve Injury

2025

Source: Svientek, S. R., et al. Fabrication of the Composite Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (C-RPNI) in the Adult Rat. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates the surgical construction of a composite regenerative peripheral nerve interface (C-RPNI) in a rat model of peripheral nerve injury. The procedure involves attaching a transected peroneal nerve to a muscle graft and overlaying it with a dermal skin graft to promote nerve regeneration. Over time, motor and sensory neurons...

Source: Childs, J. E., et al. Vagus Nerve Stimulation as a Tool to Induce Plasticity in Pathways Relevant for Extinction Learning. J. Vis. Exp. (2015)This video demonstrates the method of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in a rat model to reduce freezing behavior. Fear-conditioned rats receive VNS during sound re-exposure, leading to reduced freezing and revealing its therapeutic potential.
