Neural Stimulation Protocol

A neural stimulation protocol is a structured set of parameters for activating or modulating nervous system activity, making it an essential tool for studying how neural circuits function. It typically specifies the stimulation modality, intensity, pulse duration, frequency, timing, and electrode or target location; electrical pulses can change neuronal membrane potentials and evoke or suppress action potentials. In neuroscience, these protocols help researchers map connectivity, test circuit function, and examine behavioral or physiological responses. Carefully controlled stimulation also supports the development and evaluation of neuromodulation approaches for conditions involving abnormal or impaired neural activity.

2025

This video demonstrates the use of an extracellular matrix-coated microfluidic chip to differentiate neural stem and progenitor cells or NPCs through electrical stimulation. After seeding and adhering to the coated region, NPCs grow, and the application of a direct current triggers their differentiation into neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes.

A Standardized Protocol for Functional Motor Mapping Using Navigated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

2026

Here, we describe a standardized protocol for motor mapping using nTMS combined with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-based reconstruction of the corticospinal tract (CST). The protocol is reproducible, clinically feasible, and readily integrable into routine clinical workflows, providing a robust and valuable framework for motor pathway assessment, neuroplasticity research, and rehabilitation planning.
