Visual Cue Display

A visual cue display is a structured presentation of visual information used to direct attention, signal an upcoming event, or probe how the nervous system processes sensory input. In neuroscience experiments, researchers control features such as cue location, color, shape, timing, and duration, then measure behavioral responses or neural activity to determine how visual signals influence perception, attention, and decision-making. Visual cue displays support studies of selective attention, eye movements, sensory integration, and cognitive processing, while also providing a controlled framework for comparing responses across experimental conditions and identifying changes associated with neurological function or impairment.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Attention refers to the limited human ability to select some information for processing at the expense of other stimuli in the environment. Attention operates in all sensory modalities: vision, hearing, touch, even taste and smell. It is most often studied in the visual domain though. A common way to study visual attention is with a spatial cueing paradigm. This paradigm allows researchers to measure the consequences of focusing...

We discuss a novel method forviewpoint-rotation of visual stimuli, and demonstrate using a mirror stereoscopethe three-dimensional percept of rotation-in-depth. The technique can be used to investigate the role of stereoscopic cues in encoding viewpoint-rotated figures.

Non-verbal communication extends beyond gestures and facial expressions to include vocal elements known as paralanguage. Paralanguage consists of non-verbal vocal cues such as pitch, loudness, speech rate, pauses, and non-verbal vocalizations like laughter, sighs, and moans. These elements not only accompany speech but also provide critical emotional and contextual information. The Role of Paralanguage in CommunicationParalanguage adds depth to spoken language by conveying emotions and...

The effectiveness of display advertising hinges on several key components. Ad Creatives are the visual elements of the ad, including images, videos,...

A Protocol for Measuring Cue Reactivity in a Rat Model of Cocaine Use Disorder

Cue reactivity is conceptualized as sensitivity to cues linked with drug-taking experiences that contribute to craving and relapse in abstinent humans. Cue reactivity is modeled in rats by measuring attentional orientation toward drug-associated cues that results in appetitive approach behavior in a cue reactivity test following self-administration and forced abstinence.
