Membrane Capacity Determination

Membrane capacity determination is the measurement of a membrane’s ability to store electrical charge, an important property in physics and electrophysiology. A membrane acts as a capacitor because its insulating layer separates conductive media; applying a voltage produces charge, and capacitance can be determined from the voltage-current relationship, often using the relation C = Q/V or C = I/(dV/dt). Measuring membrane capacitance helps characterize membrane area, thickness, and dielectric properties, while supporting analysis of electrical signaling, ion transport, and the behavior of biological membranes in cells and model systems.

Lung Capacity

The air in the lungs is measured in volumes and capacities. Lung volume measures reflect the amount of air taken in, released, or left over after a lung function, like a single inhalation. Lung capacity measures are sums of two or more lung volume measures. There are four defined lung volume measures: tidal volume, inspiratory reserve volume, expiratory reserve volume, and residual volume. Tidal volume is the amount of air inhaled and exhaled in a normal breath. Inspiratory...
