He began working in AM in graduate school in 2006 using pre-commercial Arcam electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) machines to study fatigue behavior of titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) lattice structures for biomedical applications. Before coming to NIST, Dr. Hrabe spent 3 years in AM industry working with 3D Systems Healthcare using EB-PBF and laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) machines to develop medical devices, secure regulatory approval, and contract manufacture using AM for clients within the medical device and orthopaedic implant industry.
