Modular Manipulator

A modular manipulator is a robotic system built from interchangeable modules, such as links, joints, actuators, sensors, and end effectors, allowing its structure to be adapted for different tasks. It works by combining these components into a selected kinematic configuration, then coordinating actuator motion through feedback control to position and orient the end effector. In bioengineering, modular manipulators can support surgical assistance, rehabilitation devices, laboratory automation, and the handling of biological materials. Their reconfigurability enables researchers to tailor reach, payload, precision, and motion to specific experimental or clinical requirements while simplifying system development and maintenance.

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

This manuscript describes a protocol to grow in vitro modular networks consisting of spatially confined, functionally inter-connected neuronal circuits. A polymeric mask is used to pattern a protein layer to promote cellular adhesion over the culturing substrate. Plated neurons grow on coated areas establishing spontaneous connections and exhibiting electrophysiological activity.

2016

We present an automated modular high-throughput-method for the identification and characterization of microbial exopolysaccharides in small scale. This method combines a fast preselection to analyze the total amount of secreted polysaccharides with a detailed carbohydrate fingerprint to enable the fast screening of newly isolated bacterial strains or entire strain collections.
