Silicone Mold Fabrication

Silicone mold fabrication is a technique for creating flexible, reusable negative molds that replicate the shape and surface features of a master pattern, supporting precise component production in bioengineering. Typically, a two-part silicone elastomer is mixed, placed around the master, degassed to remove trapped air, and cured before the solid mold is separated. The resulting mold can cast polymers, hydrogels, and other biomaterials into defined geometries for microfluidic devices, tissue-engineering constructs, and laboratory models. Because silicone molds combine dimensional fidelity with easy release and repeated use, they help researchers prototype biological systems and manufacture customized research components efficiently.

Fabrication of a Master Mold for Microneedles with a Micron-sized Air-vent Hole

2025

This article introduces a unique method for fabricating master molds with an air-vent hole to prevent air entrapment during viscous polymer casting, enabling the fabrication of gelatin microneedles with sharp tips. By reducing the casting volume of high-viscosity gelatin, thin-walled hollow pyramidal microneedles could also be fabricated.

We present methods for fabrication of patterned microstructures of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and their use as master molds for production of polymer microstructures with organized nanoscale surface texture. The CNT forests are densified by condensation of solvent onto the substrate, which significantly increases their packing density and enables self-directed formation of 3D shapes.

Fabrication and Optimization of Type II Silicon Clathrate Films

2025

The two-thermal annealing method enables the fabrication of thin films of type II semiconductor silicon clathrate. Post-synthesis treatments, including thermal pressing and reactive ion etching, were performed to improve the material properties. This approach provides an accessible pathway for fabricating tunable clathrate films suitable for next-generation electronic and photonic devices.
