Biospec-nano

Biospec-nano refers to the study and use of nanoscale tools, materials, and measurements for examining biological specimens, linking nanotechnology with biological research. In these approaches, samples such as cells, proteins, nucleic acids, or tissues interact with engineered surfaces, particles, probes, or sensors that generate measurable optical, electrical, or chemical signals. Biospec-nano methods can improve the detection of biomarkers, characterization of molecular interactions, imaging, and analysis of limited or complex samples. Their applications support disease research, diagnostics, drug development, and bioengineering by enabling sensitive measurements at cellular and molecular scales.

Source: Sina Shahbazmohamadi and Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti-Roodposhti, School of Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT Alloys with grain size less than 100 nm are known as nanocrystaline alloys. Due to their enhanced physical and mechanical properties, there is an ever-increasing demand to employ them in various industries such as semiconductor, biosensors and aerospace. To improve the processing and application of nanocrystalline alloys, it is necessary to develop close to 100%...

Fabrication and Operation of a Nano-Optical Conveyor Belt

2015

The scalability and resolution of conventional optical manipulation techniques are limited by diffraction. We circumvent the diffraction limit and describe a method of optically transporting nanoparticles across a chip using a gold surface patterned with a path of closely spaced C-shaped plasmonic resonators.

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut Nanoparticles have been increasingly used research towards targeted drug delivery and controlled drug release. While most of these particles have been developed as polymeric or liposomal particles because of their biocompatibility, there is a trend in current research toward the use of metallic and magnetic nanoparticles. These metallic nanoparticles...
