Posterior Subcutaneous Wat

Posterior subcutaneous white adipose tissue (WAT) is a depot of fat located beneath the skin on the back and posterior body surface, where it stores energy and helps regulate whole-body physiology. Its adipocytes convert excess circulating nutrients into triglycerides, release fatty acids when energy is needed, and secrete signaling molecules that influence glucose metabolism, inflammation, and appetite. Studying this tissue helps researchers distinguish the metabolic effects of subcutaneous and visceral fat, assess adipose tissue remodeling, and investigate obesity, insulin resistance, and energy balance. These findings support biological research into how fat distribution affects health and disease.

2013

Human tumor xenografts in immunodeficient mice are valuable tools to study cancer biology. Specific protocols to generate subcutaneous and intrahepatic xenografts from human hepatocellular carcinoma cells or tumor fragments are described. Liver regeneration induced by partial hepatectomy in recipient mice is presented as a strategy to facilitate intrahepatic engraftment.

Isolating Short Posterior Ciliary Arteries: A Protocol to Excise Intact Short Posterior Ciliary Microvessels from Porcine Eye

2025

This video describes the protocol to isolate the short posterior ciliary arteries from the porcine eye. The isolated short posterior arteries are a suitable source for elucidating the molecular insights and protein profiles of the ocular blood vessels.

Subcutaneous Trigeminal Nerve Stimulation to Relieve Neuropathic Facial Pain

Source: Jakobs, M., et al. Subcutaneous Trigeminal Nerve Field Stimulation for Refractory Facial Pain. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This procedure demonstrates the implantation of subcutaneous electrodes for trigeminal nerve stimulation to treat neuropathic facial pain. The electrodes are tunneled subcutaneously from the affected facial region to an infraclavicular pocket, where they are connected to an internal pulse generator (IPG). The IPG delivers electrical stimulation, activating mechanoreceptor...

Rat Model of Photochemically-Induced Posterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

The goal of this protocol is to photochemically induce ischemic injury to the posterior optic nerve in rat. This model is critical to studies of the pathophysiology of posterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and therapeutic approaches for this and other optic neuropathies, as well as of other CNS ischemic diseases.

Subcutaneous Trigeminal Nerve Field Stimulation for Refractory Facial Pain

Treating chronic or neuropathic facial pain can be challenging when medical or standard treatment fails. Subcutaneous nerve field stimulation is the least invasive form of neuromodulation and is used for chronic back pain. We applied this technology to treat chronic and neuropathic trigeminal facial pain.
