Tumor Sample Processing

Tumor sample processing is the controlled preparation of cancer tissue or biopsy material for laboratory analysis, preserving cellular, molecular, and structural information needed for reliable results. Depending on the study, samples may be transported under appropriate conditions, divided, fixed, frozen, or mechanically and enzymatically dissociated into single-cell suspensions, while steps such as filtration or centrifugation remove debris and enrich usable material. Proper processing supports histopathology, immunostaining, genomic and transcriptomic profiling, flow cytometry, and primary cell culture. Consistent handling helps researchers compare tumors accurately, characterize heterogeneity, identify biomarkers, and evaluate disease mechanisms or responses to treatment.

Circulating tumor cells are isolated from the blood of cancer patients without inflicting cellular damage. Isolation of tumor cells is accomplished using a bimolecular surface of E-selectin in addition to antibodies against epithelial markers. A nanotube coating specifically promotes cancer cell adhesion resulting in high capture purities.
