Hydroxylamine Hydrochloride

Hydroxylamine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of hydroxylamine, a reactive nitrogen-containing compound widely used as a laboratory reagent in chemistry. In aqueous solution, it dissolves to provide hydroxylamine, which acts as a nucleophile and reacts with aldehydes and ketones to form oximes, often under controlled pH conditions. This carbonyl-selective reaction supports compound identification, purification, and structural analysis, while hydroxylamine derivatives also serve as useful intermediates in organic synthesis. Because its reactivity depends on solution conditions and substrate structure, hydroxylamine hydrochloride provides a practical model for studying nucleophilic addition and functional-group transformations.

A method for the determination of acetate kinase activity is described. This assay utilizes a direct reaction for determining enzyme activity and kinetics of acetate kinase in the acetate-forming direction with different phosphoryl acceptors. Furthermore, this method can be utilized for assaying other acetyl phosphate or acetyl-CoA utilizing enzymes.
